Formation

The hurricanes normally form somewhere around equator, particularly in the north and south zones. These areas are known for warm waters. Normally, they form thunderstorms, however, in certain situations they turn up to be large storms that spin too. This spinning further adds to its rage.

Hurricanes Why Do Hurricanes Happen

A tropical storm normally starts at 40 miles per hour and may travel towards land. While moving towards the land, the storm picks up reasonable speed and may entertain by powerful winds and rain. A storm will be classified as a tropical storm only if it moves with a speed of 75 miles per hour.

Characteristics

If you talk about the formation, these can be based on hundreds of miles across. On the corners of hurricane, there will be rain showers. The eye of a hurricane lies in the center of the clouds and its size may vary. Some may be less than 6 miles while others may be over 100 miles in diameter. The eye area is normally clear and winds and rain stops temporarily while passing through it.

Effects

Irrespective of the calm eye, the water rises up around it resulting in storm surges. Along with strong winds, they results in enormous waves upon the sea. This causes sea level to rise as well.

It is matter of common observation that when hurricanes move toward the land, they gather enough speed and winds. The reason behind this is that they get this massive power from water and as soon as they hit the land, they lose much of their energy but still can be very ruinous. Flooding can be caused due to frequent rainfalls, strong winds can oust billboards and rooftops. The severe hurricanes with more than 150 miles per hour of winds can even destroy huge houses, mega structures and buildings.
